For ridden events you'll bring your own pony or horse, helmet and boots. Prefer to start on the ground? Our horse-management sessions need no horse at all. Here's how to get your rider started this season.

Come & try
New riders are welcome to a have-a-go session before committing — bring a helmet and boots. Just here for a single event? Complete our casual member agreement instead of joining.
Register online
Complete NZPCA membership and our club form, and pay your fees online through Nominate.
Start riding
Join your rally group, work toward certificates and get involved in club life.

What to bring
Club rules
Our rules keep rallies safe and fair for everyone. Full NZPCA rules apply alongside these club expectations.
Helmets that meet an approved standard must be worn and fastened whenever mounted.
Riders follow instructor directions and ride with care and courtesy at all times.
Ponies must be sound, suitably schooled and under control for their rider's level.
A parent or caregiver must remain on the grounds while juniors are riding.
Dogs are to be kept on a lead and under control; clean up after your pony.
Good sportsmanship is expected from riders, parents and supporters alike.
Grooming & turnout
Smart turnout shows respect for your pony and the club. Aim for clean, tidy and safe — not fancy.
Your pony
- Coat brushed clean; mane and tail tidy and free of knots
- Hooves picked out and clean
- Tack clean, supple and correctly fitted
- Bit and metalwork wiped down
- Numnah/saddle blanket clean
Yourself
- Approved, tagged helmet — correctly fitted
- Hair tied back and tidy
- Clean shirt, jodhpurs and riding boots
- Club top for rallies and events
- Gloves recommended; no loose jewellery
Uniform & dress
Our club rides in red and black. For rallies, wear the club top with jodhpurs and boots. For competitions and certificate testing, formal turnout applies.

- Jodhpurs are purchased from your preferred supplier — not through the club

Helmet tagging
Helmets can be checked and yellow-tagged at Farm Supplies, and sometimes at shows when tagging personnel are available.
