NZPCA certificates recognise both riding and horse-care knowledge. Riders progress at their own pace, supported by our coaches and testing days.
An updated A & H Syllabus is launching at the NZPCA AGM Conference — July 2026. The new pathway introduces updated syllabuses, modernised learning resources, stronger horse welfare content and clearer progression pathways. See the visual map below and talk to your coach for details.

An overview only — always follow the current NZPCA syllabus for exact requirements.
Basic riding position, control at walk and trot, and everyday pony care and safety.
Riding with more independence, cantering, and a growing understanding of horse care.
Effective riding on the flat and over fences, with sound stable-management knowledge.
More demanding riding and a deeper knowledge of health, feeding and fitness.
Schooling ponies effectively and managing their care to a high standard.
The highest pony club certificate — expert riding, training and horse-management knowledge.
Completing A Riding plus H Horse Management earns the full NZPCA certificate — recognising leadership, horsemanship and achievement at the highest level.
The pathway also includes a Dressage specialisation stream and Lead Rein entry level. Ask your coach about which path suits your goals.
Lead Rein → D → D+ → C Riding → C+ Riding → B Riding → A Riding. Focus on mounted skills, position, flat work and jumping.
C HM → C+ HM → B HM → H. Deep knowledge of horse care, feeding, health, anatomy and stable management. No horse required for sessions.
E → C → B Dressage → C+ Dressage → A Dressage → A Show Jumping. Precision and partnership — riding accurate tests with elegance.
The full syllabus, certificate cards and examiner guides are published by NZPCA.
