Wanganui Petre Pony Club is a volunteer-run club affiliated with the New Zealand Pony Clubs Association, part of the Central Districts region. We welcome riders of every level and their families.
Who we are
Pony club is where young riders build real horsemanship — not just riding, but the care, knowledge and responsibility that go with looking after a pony.
Our coaches volunteer their time across rallies, camps and team events. We follow the NZPCA syllabus, run certificate testing, and compete in dressage, show jumping, Show Hunter, eventing and mounted games.
Above all, we're a community. Parents pitch in, families make friends, and riders grow in confidence season after season.

NZ Pony Club structure
Local clubs like ours belong to a region (we're in Central Districts), which sits under the national body, NZPCA. Each level runs events and supports the one below.
The rally system
Rallies are our regular coached days. Riders work in skill-based groups on mounted lessons, plus horse-management and theory. Rally info →

A clear ladder from D to A Certificate recognises both riding and horse-care knowledge, at each rider's own pace. Certificates →

Members represent the club in regional teams across dressage, show jumping, Show Hunter, eventing and mounted games. Events →
Horse management education
Feeding, health, anatomy and gear — the knowledge behind good horsemanship. Sessions run online and in person, with no horse needed.
